7 Ways to Reclaim Your Time

Earlier this year, Maxine Waters made a point of reclaiming her time. She singlehandedly reminded me and other arounds the nation that 1) my time is limited and needs to be used wisely, and 2) it’s up to me to make sure that I don’t allow myself or anyone else to waste it.

At a time when so many of us have jobs, side hustles, dreams of meal prepping and working out five days a week, not to mention attempting to maintain a social calendar, it can be challenging to not end the week feeling drained and wondering where the hell all of our time went.  When I think of reclaiming my own time, I determine I can maximize each moment and create a day that is both efficient and enjoyable.

Here are seven ways you can reclaim your own time this week:

1) Conduct a time audit.

Time tracker apps like Toggl and ATracker can help you determine how much time you are spending on certain tasks and help you re-prioritize your obligations.

2) Create a schedule for TOMORROW.

Get a head start on tomorrow by planning it out today.  You can create a to-do list or schedule out your time.

3) Stop procrastinating.

You already know what Nike says about this: just do it.

4) Say “NO” to something that you really don’t want do.

Your time is precious, so save it for the things you wholeheartedly want, not the things you’re on the fence about.

5)Do something just for yourself.

Whether it’s a solo walk, an appointment with your therapist, or even a nap, make time for self-care.

6) Leave work on time.

Newsflash: the work will still be there tomorrow.  Seriously, LEAVE WORK ON TIME.

7) Ask for help.

You don’t have to handle everything by yourself.  Maximize your time and preserve your energy by splitting some of your tasks with someone who can help to alleviate the burden.
